External DC power to CR5000

arindam Apr 4, 2011 05:25 PM

Dear All

I want to use a 12 V car battery to supply power to a CR5000 datalogger. I have connected the battery with CR5000 in frot socket. But how do I know if that is using power from the connected battery or the rechargable base of the datalogger itself?

Also, when I connected the battery, there has been some short circuit in the line? Will that damage the datalogger?

Thanks

Hi Arindam,

Flipping the switch to the off position on the rechargeable base disconnects power between it and the logger.

Once you have done that you can now power your logger from the green power terminal on top.

Please note: is is recommended that you still power the logger through the rechargeable base but use a DCDC18R
http://www.campbellsci.com/dcdc18r to pull power from your automotive battery. This is because damage may occur when starting the engine, logger may loose power or encounter power surges during these events.
